The third community workshop (watch the video) took place on May 25, 2011. A draft site plan was presented (see below) and participants provided comments on the city hall site plan, the design of the city hall, and public art for the project. The next step is for the design team to develop a total cost for the project so that the City Council can decide whether to move forward with the project, expected in November 2011. The draft rendering was presented at the community workshop on May 25. The rendering is undergoing revision based on public and city council feedback.
The second community workshop took place on April 27 (watch the video). After a presentation of a draft site plan (below) citizens worked around tables to talk about the types of activities that could accommodated on the city hall block and the paths that people will typically use. Here's what they said.
The first of three community workshops on the city hall/city center project took place on March 23, 2011 (watch the video). Thank you to the 30 Bothell citizens who attended along with city staff and representatives from the development team!
The following guiding principles were developed based on the first community workshop and guidance from the City Council.
Guiding principles:
- Sensible.
The City Hall shall be a good fit with the scale and feel of Bothell. The City Hall shall include office space sufficient to accommodate the City's long-term needs, including needs for all potential annexation areas. The project shall not exceed the set budget.
- Catalyzing.
The design shall accommodate the creation of a vibrant, dynamic and cohesive block of mixed uses that energize the economic development of downtown Bothell through the creation of a strong community core.
- Accessible.
City Hall shall be welcoming and transparent. The project shall include underground parking and could include short-term surface parking to accommodate demand generated by all anticipated uses on the block.
- Sustainable.
The project shall be environmentally focused and will be designed to achieve a LEED Gold Certification or equivalent. City Hall shall be an energy-efficient, healthy building, establishing a higher standard for environmental sustainability.
- Civic.
City Hall shall be welcoming and transparent and shall be a civic forum for everyone. City Hall shall include multi-use meeting facilities for public use.
- Connected.
The City Hall block shall include inviting and active outdoor public spaces that connect the City Hall/City Center block to the existing downtown core and historic Main Street and new development.
- Bothell.
A City Hall shall create a civic identity for Bothell and express Bothell's history and future. The City Hall/City Center project shall be consistent with the adopted Downtown Vision and Plan.
